New MFX/CIX processes make metallic printing fast, convenient and cost-effective.
Colour Innovations recently introduced to the Toronto market a new metallic ink palette using the MFX Silver and CIX Gold and Bronze processes. The licensed MFX software includes a metallic colour library and software system that produces literally hundreds of thousands of metallic colours efficiently and cost-effectively and allows designers to use a wide range of colours in a single piece while still meeting budget limitations. Special effects which can be created with this process include LiteFX which can make artwork appear to change colour, HoloFX which can be used to make areas of an image appear and disappear, hidden text, and a 3-D effect.
Traditionally, metallic inks have been expensive to use and the colour gamut has been limited. This new process creates
thousands of metallic colours out of only five colours – a special MFX silver base plus the regular CMYK process colours – and can produce an infinite number of metallic shades and hues. For example, an 8-page self-cover could use 1,000 different metallic colours but be printed using only 5 colours! The MFX proprietary software can also automatically convert images, faces and backgrounds into metallic tints.
Responding to designer demands for even more range and versatility, Colour Innovations developed its own CIX proprietary system to create a full spectrum of gold and bronze metallic hues to compliment the MFX silver-based range.
